Hello There!
The baritone saxophone has been my main instrument since the mid-1960s, I originally started out on clarinet, but started playing alto saxophone after I had heard Charlie Parker. I play all the saxophones, and clarinet and flute.
I took early retirement from my job at Leeds College of Music in 2002.
The College had a reputation for being a pioneer of jazz teaching - allegedly the first in Europe.
Retirement means that I can play more, which I still do with many different local bands and groups. I have extensively toured the UK and Europe.
Since 2006, I have taught woodwind classes at South Leeds Music Centre where I hold classes in clarinet, saxophone and flute.
I live in Yorkshire with my family, all of whom live nearby. My son-in-law has his own geneaology website.
My musical interests spread much wider that jazz, encompassing all styles and genres, so long as they are competant, and honestly performed. In addition to the musical interests, I am interested in the following, and I welcome discussions on any of them -
Interests: Linux computing; CP/M computing; books & reading; walking and caravanning.
Likes: Pepper Adams; Gerry Mulligan; Serge Chaloff; Bob Gordon; Charlie Parker; Stan Getz; Frank Zappa; Steely Dan; T S Eliot; Anthony Burgess; Dylan and R S Thomas; computer music; arranging; digital photography.
Dislikes: waffley people; applied bureaucracy; lumpy custard (and sometimes gravy - but not Zappa's).
